Skills for People recently received a grant of £41,110 from the Heritage Lottery Fund to capture people’s stories of life in Prudhoe Hospital. At one time, the Hospital was home to 1,500 people with a learning disability from across the north east. The hospital is now closed and with that closure goes a wealth of stories and experiences. Skills for People are publishing a book, a website and some short films telling the stories of the people who lived there.
We are focussing on the patients who lived there, but know that people who worked there have a lot to offer the project as well. We know that staff experiences will help us piece together the history of the hospital and particularly want any photographs or other documents which might help. If you used to live at Prudhoe (or support someone who did) and want to tell your story, please contact Tim Keilty at Skills for People on 01912818737.
If you have any memories or photographs to share, you can email them to prudhoestories@skillsforpeople.org.uk
We are holding a day to capture memories and gather photographs on Wednesday 22nd February from 9.30-12.30 at St. Mary’s Parish Hall in Prudhoe. If you have anything to share please bring them along and we’ll copy them on the day.
